Household poisons include bleach, paint stripper, glue, paraffin, and weed killer. These may be spilled, causing chemical burns, inhaled, or swallowed.

Treatment of Chemicals on the Skin

Residual chemicals on the skin should be rinsed away with copious amounts of water.

Treatment of Swallowed Poisons

DO NOT attempt to induce vomiting.

Assess the need to contact a medical practitioner or the emergency service. Give information about the swallowed poison.
If a conscious casualty’s lips are burned by corrosive substances, frequent sips of cold water or milk may be given.
